Welcome to life in a home, Emma!

Hello from M's Hard Wood's foster family! We sprang her from the kennel Friday afternoon, so she's had a couple days to get settled in to our routine. She is definitely adapting well to life in a home with one human and two other greyhounds. She is a sweetie!

The first thing we tackled was getting a better name for this pretty girl. I tried to think of something that would build on her racing name. But, let's face it, Hard and Wood don't readily translate into any nice girly names. So, by default, we were left with M's.... hmmmmmmmm..... M's....... which naturally led to Emma.

One of the best things about fostering is seeing the transformation that takes place as a greyhound transitions from undomesticated animal to family pet. For Emma, 24 hours of time and two stuffed Kongs sealed with peanut butter were all she needed to jump start her transition. She is well on her way to being ready for her forever family.

So...you're asking...what's she like? Here are a few tidbits from our first couple of days together.

Her favorite room in the house is the kitchen because she now knows good things happen there. She is very curious, but listens well to corrections. We've had no potty accidents in the house. She has demonstrated many, many, many times today that she can do the long stretch of carpeted stairs in my house. She loves to go on walks although we need to work a bit more on walking in a straight line. (So much to see and hear and smell...) And, I saw her "roaching" in her crate last night as she caught up on her beauty rest. (For those who are new to greyhounds, "roaching" is a good thing...a grey will lie on his or her back with all four legs up in the air...a state of total relaxation.)

Overall, I would say we are quite smitten with the girl. :-)

I love the name Emma. It's the perfect play on her name. Jeanna Weot

Roaching already? Wow. Now that's one comfortable hound. You must be really spoiling her :)
